Being savvy with car repairs

Some car garages are great at telling you what you need to do to fix your vehicle, they may even offer you a number of options such as buying parts yourself, temporary fixes or advising you not to spend the money on the car as it is not financially viable. It is fantastic if you can find a garage that you trust and have built up a relationship with.

Unfortunately there are a number of garages that take advantage of the fact that some people are not very car savvy and totally trust what a mechanic is telling them. This can mean that you end up sending additional money on repairs not required or being over quoted for a job.

Ideally if a garage tells you your car requires a repair or replacement part, try to find out as much detail as possible. You can then do your own bit of homework and also ring up other garages to obtain quotes, this way you can compare the prices they are quoting you to see if it is reasonable.
