An MOT can be a worrying time for any motorist. It may be that you are aware of certain issues with the car that may mean it does not pass first time or it could be that you are not aware of any issues, but are going to struggle to pay if the repairs required are expensive.
Choosing a garage to carry out the MOT requires some research. Although all garages are supposed to MOT cars to the same standard, unfortunately you do get some that will fail the car on something that another garage would of passed, just so they can charge you for the additional work. I found that one way to avoid worrying about this was to take the car to an MOT only testing station. These are often used by local councils but are also open to the public. They will carry out the MOT and advise you of if it passed or failed and if it failed what needs to be done to correct it. It is then your responsibility to take it elsewhere to get the repairs done and then return the car for a retest.
